We are lucky to have so many families participating in our community every year. We've been talking with a few of those family-oriented participants lately, and it got us thinking that when it comes to fitness, family isn't just the people you're related to. Sure, your blood relatives can make an amazing team, but our participants form virtual families around all kinds of ties.
November is officially the month of positivity and camaraderie for the running community, as we dubbed November 20th to be Globally Organized Hug A Runner Day (or GO HARD).
Why? Because runners are awesome.
Okay, that’s not the only reason...but runners are pretty great! In our Run The Year community we see complete strangers become best friends. We also see some people who learn to run their very first mile!
Think about the first time you went running.
GO HARD or Globally Organized Hug A Runner Day is almost here! Don't miss out on the single best day to be a runner all year long! Below are 10 ways you can participate, "Share The Sweat" and help us raise 1 million hugs!
Seven years ago, without any authority or right to do such a thing, we declared November 20th the first annual “Globally Organized Hug A Runner Day!” (GO HARD) Since then thousands of people from around the world have celebrated the day with us. This year's GO HARD celebration is just over a month away but that gives us time to train and prepare!
A month ago we, interviewed one of our Amerithon participants, Jim Powers, to see what it was like doing the challenge as a team. Jim and his wife Deborah Lea-Powers are on a team together, striving to reach the finish line at the Washington Monument. After completing 2,016 miles in 2016 for the Run The Year 2016 Challenge, they wanted to find out how to stay motivated and continue staying active. Not only do they have to complete 3,521 miles to finish the challenge, but they get to virtually travel across the USA as they earn badges for each landmark they pass along the way. Read more to hear what it’s like to do the Amerithon Challenge as a two-person team straight from Jim!
